Why should I make homemade protein bars instead of buying them at the store?
Store-bought protein bars contain a ton of unnatural ingredients to enhance their shelf-life without fully compromising their flavor. Martica Heaner, M.A., M.Ed., for MSN Health & Fitness states, “Some bars contain unhealthy trans fats, often found in partially hydrogenated vegetable oils. Some bars are packed with so much sugar or high-fructose corn syrup that you might as well be eating a candy bar.” Not to mention, some bars taste like a strip of leather or the bottom of a used cardboard box, and most leave you feeling hungry still!
After we found out how unhealthy packaged protein bars could be (and after we’d gotten sick of the gross taste), we started experimenting in the kitchen and making our own creations. We’ve been putting together uniquely healthy, easy, clean and delicious recipes for years now and this book is a collection of some of our favorites.
