I used to think so too, until I started noticing the benefits a regular yoga practice had on my digestion.
Now let’s talk about digestion for a minute, shall we?
Bloating & Constipation
Okay, now I know you guys probably are like ummmm I’m on a fitness blog and this is TMI.
But hang with me, this is important…
One of the biggest health problems in society is chronic constipation. And ladies, if you aren’t going to the bathroom regularly – there is a problem.
But you aren’t alone… If you are feeling heavy and bloated, you are among the 100 million Americans who may not have regular daily bowel movements.
Again, this may not be anyone’s favorite topic, but did you know that Americans spend over $725 million on laxatives each year?!
That’s straight cray-cray!
You can help aid your digestion, debloat AND detox with the yoga routine below…
Yoga for Detox & Digestion
Now you might be wondering, how yoga can improve your digestion and aid in detoxification.
Well, a it’s a combination of deep breathing, stretches that target your abdominal organs, and twists aid in massage to wring out stuck intestinal toxins.
Think about it – how often do you actually turn and twist during the day?
Probably not very often, and that’s why you’ve got a lot just “stuck” in the middle.
I highly recommend diffusing some essential oils while you are doing this routine to help aid in digestion.
Essential Oils For Detox & Digestion:
- Peppermint Oil: This oil smells just like candy canes or peppermint tea, and can be used topically, or in very small amounts (a drop in a smoothie or a glass of water is fine) to help detox the body. The plant itself has been used medicinally for thousands of years, often as a wonderful cognitive supporter. It also aids the respiratory system, and with digestive disorders.
- Lemon Oil: Lemons are known disinfectants, and the essential oils are no different. They are incredibly effective at clearing out gunk from the body. The benefits of lemon oil include its ability to treat stress disorders, fever, infections, asthma, obesity, insomnia, skin disorders, hair conditions, stomach problems, and tiredness. Lemon oil is a great essential oil to use for sleepless nights, stomach upset, or to minimize cramps during menses. It also relieves mental fatigue, irritability and nervousness, as well as boosts the immune system.
This sequence will help relieve a wide range of digestive discomfort (think: gas, bloating, constipation).
And the best part? With better digestion comes more energy. So let’s jump right in…
