Date Smoothie vegan

Need an easy banana-free breakfast smoothie recipe?

Look no further, you’ve found one!

date-smoothie-PinterestThis Delicious Medjool Date Smoothie is not only banana-free, it’s also vegan, dairy-free and ULTRA healthy!

By using Medjool dates as a substitute for the common banana base, we can not only pack in tons of important micronutrients like potassium and magnesium, but also utilize the natural sugars in Medjool dates for sustained energy throughout the day.

PRO TIP: Get your Medjool dates at your local grocery store — they’re in the produce section!

And due to the high fiber content in Medjool dates, digestion of their natural sugars is significantly slowed, meaning you won’t experience a “sugar crash” 30 minutes after eating them like you would with some other fruits.

Wait a minute… Did she just say “fruit”?

Yes! Medjool dates are actually a fruit!

And an incredibly versatile fruit at that. They can be eaten on their own as a midday snack/energy booster, are great to take along with you on outdoor adventures like hikes, work amazingly well as an all-natural, single-ingredient sweetener for homemade protein bars and other healthy treats, and can be used as an added nutrient boost to smoothies like this one.

If you’re not a fan of bananas in your smoothies, try using Medjool dates instead! You will be amazed by how delicious and nutritious your smoothies come out.

3 More Benefits of Eating Medjool Dates

As if that weren’t cool enough, these little bites of heaven really pack a nutritional punch!

  • Low glycemic, high fiber fruit
  • Natural sugar content provides energy, helps balance hormones and stop sweets cravings
  • High potassium, magnesium, vitamin B6 and iron content

Why Add Cinnamon Too?

I also highly recommend adding in a dash of cinnamon to as many smoothies as you can!
Why? Because studies have shown that cinnamon may help boost your metabolism AND it can help regulate your body’s insulin response. Cinnamon is also rich in phytonutrients and antioxidants which make it a great option for detoxing” the body of bloat.
A 2003 study published in Diabetes Care reports that cinnamon helps improve blood sugar, and lowers cholesterol and triglyceride levels in people who have diabetes. And according to Authority Nutrition, cinnamon may help reduce inflammation and may offer protection against cancer and neuro-degenerative diseases, such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease.*
